Nutrition for Swimmers
Greenknoll YMCA
Feb 3, 2009
|
We will have a talk given by nutrition expert, Nina Stout CHC. Nina is the mother of two Mako swimmers, Dawson and Aidan and runs her own nutrition and wellness business. She will address some of the needs that athletes, particularly swimmers, have during the meal the night before competition as well as what to eat on race day. You will find out what to pack in the swim bag to keep energy up during a meet without loading up on foods that are often available at the concession stands (at those other clubs), but won't do the job.
The talk is open to senior swimmers and any parents. Come to the 1st door on left down hall towards new cardio / weight room wing right after practice. There will be healthy snacks to sample. Parents may come with your SR swimmers or just plan to pick them up at 6:00 PM. Any parents with younger swimmers may attend while their kids are in the pool. Participation is strongly encouraged by Coach Roger.

Invitational Meet - Pay to enter $4 per swim. Informally called the Last Ditch - a last chance to qualify for those who are "close" to qualifying for New Englands and want one more chance to get a better time. It can be long and crowded so it is not recommended unless you need it. The definition of "close” is subjective, but you could use 1.0 - 1.5 second per 25 yds of distance as a guide, or use your own judgment. Being “close” is not a requirement if you just want to try for some new best times. We will put together a team entry for those who sign up in Supermeets by deadline, if you miss the team entry read the meet announcement for entry instructions – you can register the day of the meet for an extra charge. Swim your age as of Dec 1, 2008. Specify your events clearly to swim what you want.
